Microsoft Azure
Microsoft's cloud: huge data centres around the world that companies rent computing power, storage and ready-made services from, paying for what they use. Hexagon says Azure lets it develop AEON at scale and train the robot's skills on demand. In January 2026 the two companies announced a partnership that also names Microsoft's tools for live data, connected industrial devices and web apps.

Strengths and trade-offs
Our analysisStrengths
Huge computing power can be rented when needed, with no data centre to build.
Training can scale up for a big job and back down afterwards.
Already used by many of the industrial companies Hexagon sells to.
Ready-made services for handling live data from machines.
Trade-offs
Costs can climb quickly with heavy AI training.
Relies on another company and on internet connections.
Factories may be wary of sending their data to the cloud.
Moving to another cloud later can be hard.
Why robot makers choose it
Our readTraining a robot's skills needs bursts of large-scale computing that few robot makers want to own outright. Azure provides that on demand, and Microsoft's existing ties with industrial customers help Hexagon fit AEON into the systems those customers already use.
This is our reasoning from the public facts. No maker has confirmed it.
Robots using it
This list covers only the robots researched so far. A robot missing here may still use this part.
