Orbbec Gemini 335
A small depth camera made by Orbbec. Two infrared cameras work as a pair, like eyes, to measure how far away each thing is, and a colour camera sits beside them. It can light the scene with its own infrared pattern or work from daylight alone, so it copes with dark rooms and bright outdoor light. On AgiBot's X2 Ultra it gives the robot its 3D view for handling objects and moving around.

Strengths and trade-offs
Our analysisStrengths
Works both indoors and outdoors, from darkness to bright light.
Small and light, under 100 g.
Sees things as close as 10 cm, useful for work at the hands.
Its depth cameras take the whole picture at once, so a moving robot gets sharp images.
Cheap for what it does.
Trade-offs
Most accurate within about 3 metres, and much less so beyond.
Its colour camera does not take the whole picture at once, so fast movement can smear it.
Shiny surfaces and glass still confuse it.
Only covers what is in front of it.
Why robot makers choose it
Our readA smaller humanoid like the X2 needs a light camera that copes with any room and with daylight, and can see right up to its hands. The Gemini 335 does that for a few hundred dollars. Orbbec is a large Chinese camera maker, which suits a Chinese robot maker that wants parts made close to home.
This is our reasoning from the public facts. No maker has confirmed it.
Robots using it
This list covers only the robots researched so far. A robot missing here may still use this part.
