Strengths and trade-offs
Our analysisStrengths
Trains a walking controller in hours, not weeks.
Runs on one ordinary graphics card.
A great deal of published robot research was built on it.
Trade-offs
Retired, so it gets no fixes.
Needs an Nvidia graphics card.
Its simplified physics does not match the real world exactly.
Why robot makers choose it
Our readWhen Unitree published its training code, this was the standard tool and its customers already knew it. Keeping the example code on a familiar tool matters more to a buyer than using the newest one.
This is our reasoning from the public facts. No maker has confirmed it.

This list covers only the robots researched so far. A robot missing here may still use this part.
