Unitree's own laser scanner, fitted under the chin of the Go2. It looks all the way round and almost straight up and down, so the robot can see the ground right in front of its feet.

Strengths and trade-offs
Our analysisStrengths
A very tall view, 96° up and down, so there are few blind spots near the robot.
Cheap for a 3D laser scanner.
Sees things as close as 5 cm.
Made by the robot's own maker, so it is built in and supported.
Trade-offs
Shorter range than rivals such as the Livox Mid-360: 30 m against 70 m.
Measures about a third as many points a second, so the picture is coarser.
Mostly used on Unitree's own robots, so less outside software supports it.
Why robot makers choose it
Our readMaking its own scanner lets Unitree put one on every Go2, including the cheapest model. A bought-in scanner at nearly twice the price would make that hard.
This is our reasoning from the public facts. No maker has confirmed it.
Robots using it
This list covers only the robots researched so far. A robot missing here may still use this part.
