Strengths and trade-offs
Our analysisStrengths
Realistic pictures, good enough to teach vision.
A robot can be tested in a virtual factory before a real one is touched.
Makes labelled training pictures in any quantity.
Trade-offs
Needs expensive Nvidia hardware.
Heavy and complex to learn.
Virtual pictures never match reality exactly, so real testing is still needed.
Why robot makers choose it
Our readFigure had to get a robot working in a BMW plant quickly. Practising in a virtual copy of the task, and making training pictures by computer, is far faster than doing everything on the factory floor.
This is our reasoning from the public facts. No maker has confirmed it.
Robots using it
This list covers only the robots researched so far. A robot missing here may still use this part.
